Nuclear Trains Action Group
The Nuclear Trains Action Group (NTAG) was set up as a working group of London Region CND in the late 1980s.
Its purpose is to campaign against the “nuclear trains” that pass through London. These are trains that carry highly-radioactive nuclear fuel rods from nuclear power stations in the south-east up to Sellafield in Cumbria for re-processing, separating-put the plutonium it contains. If the containers of the rods were breached in a built-up area such as London, either through a serious accident or by terrorist action, they would release highly radioactive material causing thousands of deaths downwind and requiring mass evacuation of a large area.
The group meets monthly, usually on the first Monday of each month, at 7pm, at the CND Office, 162 Holloway Road, London N7 8DQ to plan its campaigning. Everybody interested in the campaign is welcome to come along. We also produce a free monthly newsletter, “Nuclear Trains.”
