Both Labour and the Tories plan to push ahead with a new generation of nuclear power stations, starting with Hinkley (Somerset) and Sizewell (Suffolk). Nuclear power is plagued with problems and is a false solution to climate change. It diverts attention and much-needed investment from more environmentally-friendly and sustainable strategies to address the twin challenges of climate change and energy security.
The camp, which will be based very near the existing power stations, will include workshops, a demo, a tour of the proposed sites for the new reactors, Chernobyl Day commemorations and more.
This event is being organised by the Stop Nuclear Power Network (formerly Nuclear People Power), a UK-based non-hierarchical grassroots network of groups and individuals taking action against nuclear power and its expansion and supporting sustainable alternatives.
